ELI: Deferral Request

Defer your Admission Start Date

Thank you for contacting the ELI Admissions Office to notify us that you need to postpone your start date. Please read the instructions and complete the form below.

Important: The ELI will not defer your start date more than 2 times. If you attempt to change your start date a third time, the ELI will cancel your admission. The application fee and express mail fee(s) paid are non-refundable.

Step 1: Send us updated documents

We are required by law to receive up-to-date proof of financial resources (issue date of the bank statement must be no more than 3 months old) before issuing an I-20 (or DS-2019) Form. Please upload a new Financial Guarantee letter or bank statement below on this form (faster method).

You can also send it by email to ud-eli@udel.edu. Please be sure to include the following information in your email:

Your full name (as it appears on your passport)
Your University of Delaware Student ID number (you can find this information on your ELI acceptance letter).

Send an updated copy of your valid passport picture page, including the scan line at the bottom.

Where should we mail your new I-20 (or DS-2019) form?

All students receive a digital I-20. If you request a hard copy of your I-20, you will be charged a $65 express mail fee.

Those being sent to international destinations will be sent via a secure express mail service. Packages being sent to a US destination will be sent via FedEx.

Proof of financial resources - This can take the form of a bank statement or a bank letter, and it must show the following information:

The name of the account holder (either your name or the name of the person who will pay for the student’s studies) written in English.
The issue date (the bank statement must be no more than 3 months old)
